Building the Neuroscience Institute Fundamental Neuroscience Lab (the FuN Lab)

With the generous support of the Gabriel Foundation and the South African Medical Research Council ABC together with the UCT Neuroscience Institute built and equipped a neuroscience biobank and biosafety level II+ laboratory. This core facility offers neuroscientists the capacity to securely store precious clinical samples, and to conduct a range of laboratory investigations including cell culture, RNA and DNA work, multiplex assays and general sample processing. This facility offers exciting opportunities to expand clinical neuroscience work and to introduce innovative laboratory technologies.

Our mission also extends beyond the lab and hospital. We actively advocate for the health of the developing brain through education and community engagement.
